Chelsea celebrate Europa League triumph: Rob Green wears full kit to lift trophy and Maurizio Sarri whips out cigar

Chelsea embarked on wild celebrations after thrashing Arsenal to win the Europa League in Baku.

Eden Hazard inspired the Blues to glory with a double in what he admitted was likely to be his final game in blue.

Former Gunners striker Olivier Giroud and Pedro also struck to ensure Arsenal were soundly beaten 4-1.

Maurizio Sarri was clearly relieved, given the speculation surrounding his future – and he immediately whipped out a cigar after the full-time whistle.

He will celebrate what has turned out to be a successful debut season in English football, finishing third in the Premier League and winning a European trophy.

Meanwhile, veteran goalkeeper Rob Green drew comparisons to John Terry by donning a full Chelsea kit and lifting the trophy.

Terry famously got his gear on after the 2012 Champions League final – but at least he played some sort of role during the competition.

Green, on the other hand, has not played a competitive game for 645 days.

Elsewhere, the injured Antonio Rudiger didn’t let his formal attire stop him from going full Terry too.

The German threw his Chelsea top over a smart white shirt and hobbled around on crutches during the celebrations.

Hazard took the opportunity to bid farewell to Chelsea, all-but confirming his imminent departure to Real Madrid.

The Chelsea celebrations continued in the dressing room afterwards and on the team bus, where goalscorer Giroud appeared to mock his former club Arsenal.

Chelsea 2-0 West Ham: Sensational Eden Hazard display sees Blues rise to third in Premier League

Eden Hazard added another superb strike to his brilliant collection as his wonder goal helped Chelsea rise to third in the Premier League with a 2-0 win over West Ham at Stamford Bridge.

The Belgian showed what Chelsea fans could be missing next year with a stunning solo opener and a late second in a terrific display which could well convince Real Madrid to pay the reported £100million asking price for him.

Hazard beat numerous Hammers players for his first goal

The 28-year-old’s current Chelsea deal expires next summer and Madrid are reported to be closing in on his signature, although not without matching the Stamford Bridge hierarchy’s valuation.

Hazard moved to 19 goals in all competitions as he eyes the 20 mark for the first time at Chelsea. His 16 league goals leave him top of the pile for combined finishes and assists, with 28.

By the time Hazard applied the finish to his stunning opener, he had ghosted past Declan Rice and Mark Noble, and flummoxed Fabian Balbuena, Angelo Ogbonna and Ryan Fredericks.

At the death, after Chelsea had wasted a succession of chances, up popped Hazard again, drilling home to seal the win.

Hazard sealed the win with a more routine goal

Hazard’s masterful first strike not only lit up the match, it also kept Chelsea in the hunt for that all-important top-four finish.

Maurizio Sarri’s men moved two points ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham and three above Arsenal in fifth, albeit having played one more game than their Champions League qualification rivals.

From the moment Ogbonna was booked for taking out the marauding Hazard just eight minutes in, West Ham’s rearguard knew they were in for a night of looking over their shoulders.

Blind spots, weaknesses – Hazard sneaked into and scythed through all these and more in another mesmerising performance.

N’Golo Kante drilled over from 20 yards, then flicked inside for Cesar Azpilicueta, only for a heavy touch to deny the captain a shot on goal.

But then, appetisers cleared away, Hazard dished up the sumptuous main course.

Collecting the ball 10 yards inside the West Ham half, he proceeded to elude half of the Hammers’ outfield players before rolling home the finish for a goal to grace any stage.

Chelsea should have quickly had the chance to double their advantage, only to be denied what appeared a clear penalty when Marko Arnautovic barged Hazard off his feet.

Hazard’s magical night continued, the Belgium star outfoxing three defenders on the turn before whipping across a fine far-post ball to Callum Hudson-Odoi.

The England international saw a rasping shot blocked, while the 18-year-old later drew a smart near-post save from Lukasz Fabianski.

Gonzalo Higuain should then have scored at the death of the half, only for Fredericks to produce a timely block after the Argentinian’s neat chest control.

West Ham rallied after the break, Kepa Arrizabalaga saving well from Manuel Lanzini and then Felipe Anderson.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek undercooked a chip when through on goal before whipping wide from 20 yards amid the Blues’ riposte.

Aaron Cresswell drilled just wide after Antonion Rudiger’s tame header in another West Ham warning.

Ross Barkley could not reach Hudson-Odoi’s teasing cross, but still the Hammers pressed, Emerson Palmieri’s defensive header thwarting Arnautovic.

Olivier Giroud snatched at a chance too, but then Hazard again showed his team-mates how to finish, book-ending a night that had belonged to him from start to finish.

Tottenham transfer news: Real Madrid tell Spurs they must trigger €700million release clause to sign target Marco Asensio

Tottenham transfer news: Real Madrid tell Spurs they must trigger €700million release clause to sign target Marco Asensio

Tottenham have made contact with Real Madrid over the possible signing of Marco Asensio, but they will have to meet his mammoth release clause if they are to bring him to north London.

According to AS, for Asensio to leave, Spurs would have to pay around £618million (€700m) to trigger his release clause, with only Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema having higher clauses in the entirety of world football.

Asensio is highly-rated but endured a tough season as Real struggled for form and results

Asensio, 23, has endured a tough season at the Bernabeu after his excellent 2017/18 campaign, having found the back of the net just once in LaLiga.

However, he is a favourite of Zinedine Zidane’s, who was reappointed Los Blancos manager earlier this season, and is expected to play a key role under the France legend moving forward.

Nonetheless, Spurs have shown interest in Asensio, who has scored 27 times for Real since debuting in 2016, but they are surely never going to pay the €700m needed to trigger his release clause.

Spurs are also reportedly interested in signing highly-rated winger Jack Clarke from Leeds.

The 18-year-old has impressed at Elland Road this season, making 24 appearances as they narrowly missed out on automatic promotion from the Championship.

Why Arsenal and Chelsea will receive less than 6,000 tickets EACH for Europa League Final in Azerbaijan

UEFA’s decision to award less than 6,000 tickets to Arsenal and Chelsea for the Europa League Final has mostly been met with derision from the footballing world.

The spectacle, which takes place on May 29, will be held at the Baku Olympic Stadium in Azerbaijan – 2,500 miles and 20 hours away by plane from London.

The Olmypic Stadium in Baku will host the Europa League Final

The Olmypic Stadium in Baku will host the Europa League Final

With the cheapest flights (including a stopover in Turkey) expected to cost fans more than £1,200, the decision to allocate so few tickets is truly bewildering.

The stadium itself can hold a maximum of 69,000 fans and the Gunners have lashed out at the decision by UEFA to hand each club less than ten per cent of the capacity.

In a statement, the club said: “As many of you will be aware, we are proud to have approximately 45,000 season ticket holders and over 180,000 official members.

“It is inevitable that with an allocation of just 6,000 tickets for the final, there will be thousands of fans who have supported the club for years and been part of our Europa League journey this season, who will be unable to attend this match.

“We recognise that any process we implement for the sales process of just 6,000 tickets for a major final will leave many fans disappointed.

“We can only ask that supporters understand the difficult situation we find ourselves in.”

However, the reason behind this is the European governing body want more locals to get involved in the game.

37,500 tickets were put on general sale in February – totalling more than 58% of the stadium’s capacity.

But the deadline kept being pushed back as it became evident UEFA were struggling to sell tickets for the game.

The rest of the tickets are expected to go to commercial partners and to serve the corporate hospitality programme.
