Arsenal transfer target Christopher Nkunku reportedly rejects new Paris Saint-Germain contract

Arsenal transfer target Christopher Nkunku has rejected a new Paris Saint-Germain contract, according to reports.

The 21-year-old has started just 12 league games for the French champions this season, and is behind Marco Verratti, Leandro Paredes and Julian Draxler in the midfield pecking order.

Christopher Nkunku’s playing time has been limited this season

Christopher Nkunku’s playing time has been limited this season

His deal runs out next summer, which means the club could cash in on him before the start of the 2019/20 campaign rather than risk losing him for free at the end of that season.

French outlet Le Parisien claim Nkunku, a product of PSG̢۪s academy, has turned down a contract extension.

Arsenal boss Unai Emery is believed to be keen on the midfielder, who could replace Juventus-bound ace Aaron Ramsey at the Emirates.

Nkunku, who played under ex-PSG boss Emery for two years from 2016, is rated at £30million, but the Gunners could try to sign him for less as he enters the final year of his contract.

In January, Nkunku̢۪s agent, Jose-Karl Pierre-Fanfan, confirmed Arsenal̢۪s interest in the player.

He said: â€Å“There is a real interest from Arsenal for Nkunku, but the discussions are quite complicated.

â€Å“There are restrictions from Arsenal’s side, they cannot do a transfer in the middle of the season.

â€Å“His situation will be evaluated in June, then he will have just one year left on his contract, and his situation will need to be evaluated.

â€Å“He is a young boy, who needs to play, enjoy himself, and to sign up for a project for the long-term, that is what he is looking for, and he was in that phase with Arsenal but it looks complicated. If we have to wait, then he is ready to do that, he will wait.”

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri could bring Gonzalo Higuain to Juventus if he gets job with Serie A giants

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is reportedly making plans about who to recruit this summer…with Italian giants Juventus should he get the job.

Along with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, Sarri has been linked with the job ever since it was announced Massimiliano Allegri would not see out the final year of his contract in Turin.

  • Maurizio Sarri to Juventus ‘done’ – reports

And according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Sarri would be keen on bringing one Chelsea man who has struggled at Stamford Bridge since his arrival.

Striker Gonzalo Higuain was brought in to solve the Blues’ problems up front with Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud struggling to make the desired impact since they arrived.

Higuain and Sarri have worked closely before, when they were at Napoli with the Argentine scoring 38 goals in his final season at the club.

And given Juventus are Higuain’s parent club, it could be a pretty routine process to get him in.

Higuain and Sarri had a good relationship at Napoli

Higuain and Sarri had a good relationship at Napoli

It is understood Sarri would also be looking to revive the careers of Paolo Dybala and Miralem Pjanic.

The pair have fallen out of favour under the previous regime but Sarri’s 4-3-3 system would give Dybala and Pjanic the chance to shine in a more attacking team.

However, Higuain’s position up front could then force star player Cristiano Ronaldo to move to the left of the front three.

Sarri’s future at Chelsea remains unclear despite guiding them to a third-placed finish in the Premier League last season.

They’ve also got a Europa League final date with Arsenal in Baku on May 29 – a game you can listen to live on talkSPORT.

The final will probably be Eden Hazard’s last game for Chelsea, with a reported move to Real Madrid looking increasingly likely.

Meanwhile, Christian Pulisic officially arrived at west London earlier this week but because of a potential transfer ban it looks unlikely Chelsea will bring in any more players, meaning they could also make loan deals for Higuain and Mateo Kovacic permanent to deepen their squad.

The striker went in for a challenge with Fabian Delph but came off worse.

His ankle looked to be the problem as he had to be helped down the tunnel by two members of the Spurs staff.

Lucas Moura had to be brought on in his place with the match finely balance at 0-0 at the time.

Tottenham fans will be worried about the prospect of being without their captain for any length of time.

Kane has 24 goals in all competitions for the club this season and was sorely missed when he was out for several weeks earlier this year.

The extent of his injury is not yet known but from his reaction and the way he left the pitch it does not look promising.

Manchester derby: ‘Teams don’t fear going to Old Trafford anymore’, says Manchester City legend Shaun Goater

Manchester United have lost the fear factor of Old Trafford, according to Manchester City legend Shaun Goater.

The neighbouring rivals will go head-to-head in the latest Manchester derby on Wednesday night, in a game which presents jeopardy for both sides.

A win for United would keep their top-four hopes alive, while City are looking to claim their 11th league win in a row to maintain their title challenge.

The Manchester rivals̢۪ last meeting, earlier this season, ended in a 3-1 win to City

2

The Manchester rivals̢۪ last meeting, earlier this season, ended in a 3-1 win to City

But Red Devils fans are facing an additional dilemma ahead of the clash, as beating City at Old Trafford could well hand the Premier League crown to old foes Liverpool.

For Goater, though, that outcome is unlikely.

MORE: Man United fan wants Man City to win and ‘wouldn’t care if it was 8-0’, just to stop Liverpool winning title

The former City striker, who famously robbed Gary Neville of possession in 2002 before scoring a derby goal, says teams no longer fear going to United as they used to under Sir Alex Ferguson, and he is confident Pep Guardiola̢۪s men will be the dominant side at the Theatre of Dreams.

The stats support his view: Manchester City have lost just once in past seven visits to their biggest rivals.

â€Å“I don’t think teams fear going to Old Trafford anymore,” Goater said on Wednesday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

â€Å“Going to Old Trafford before, you were just happy to come away with a draw if you could. They were so dominant in Sir Alex Ferguson’s time.

â€Å“You were pelted with chances, you had to defend and you’d end up walking away saying: ‘We got away with one there, we only lost 4-1!’

â€Å“But now, we have seen teams go there and dominate and you just think, why are these teams dominating Man United at Man United?

â€Å“And it’s not right just to put it down to Jose Mourinho’s time. It makes you think, is this just Man United now?

Man United were thumped 4-0 by Everton in their preview Premier League game

â€Å“It’s changed, it’s just changed.

â€Å“In recent years City have gone there and have pretty much been dominant, so I think the players will be buoyant and upbeat and will have a real belief they can see this game through.

â€Å“But United players will be thinking: ‘No, not today.’

â€Å“After what happened against Everton [losing 4-0 at Goodison Park on Sunday], there has to be a reaction. They will want to put on a good performance and prove they are playing for the badge.”

Tottenham news: Martin Jol reveals he secretly sold Porsche 911 given to him by Daniel Levy

Former Tottenham manager Martin Jol has admitted he sold a Porsche 911 months after receiving it as a gift from chairman Daniel Levy.

Jol, who was in charge of Spurs between 2004 and 2007, was given the car after guiding Spurs to the Europa League at the end of the 2006/07 season.

However, the Dutchman also claimed he was promised a BMW by Levy and his vice-chairman Paul Kemsley if he got Spurs in Europe at the end of the season before, which he managed by getting them into the old UEFA Cup, which is now the Europa League.

Eventually, Jol did get his new wheels but it turned out he actually had the exact same Porsche, so he had to sell it on the sly.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Jol said: â€Å“Daniel and his vice-chairman Paul Kemsley were obsessed with the Champions League.

“Paul told me ‘if you play in Europe, I will give you a BMW’, so when we were in the UEFA Cup I was waiting for it and I think I got a watch from his driver instead. It was a nice watch, but I gave it to my nephew and I never asked about the BMW.

â€Å“Paul never turned up with the BMW, but maybe a year later when we qualified for Europe again, Daniel gave me a Porsche 911. That was nice, but the thing was I already had the same Porsche, so secretly I sold it a couple of months later.

“It didn’t come with any of the papers, so I had to make an excuse to ask for them so I could sell it!”

Spurs take on Dutch side Ajax, a team Jol managed in the 2009/10 season, for a place in the Champions League final with the first leg of the semi-final tie in north London on Tuesday.

Current boss Mauricio Pochettino has brought Champions League football to Spurs for the last three seasons – a feat Jol couldn’t quite manage.

But Spurs came exceptionally close in 2005/06 when they began the final weekend in fourth spot, but local rivals Arsenal snatched it away from them following their win over Wigan and Spurs’ damaging loss at West Ham.

However, Spurs’ defeat at Upton Park wasn’t without controversy as a number of their players were struck with a bout of food poisoning on the morning of the game.

They lost 2-1 and their Champions League hopes went up in smoke but Jol refused to fully blame the dodgy lasagne the players received on their defeat.
