Sergio Aguero has been tipped to beat Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City team-mate Raheem Sterling to the PFA Player of the Year award this season.
Sam Allardyce says the Argentine striker deserves to finally win the honour after years of consistent scoring at the top level.
Aguero, who was incredibly named in the Team of the Year for the first time only last season, is currently third favourite for the Player of the Year gong.
Netherlands international Van Dijk has long been the front-runner having helped turn Liverpool into Premier League title contenders, while Sterling has emerged as a contender following his purple patch for club and country.
Amazingly, Aguero and Sterling have played a direct role in the same number of goals for Man City this season – both players’ goal and assists tallies total 35.
But, Aguero is the club̢۪s top scoring player with 28 this term and is also leading the race for the Premier League Golden Boot with 18 top flight goals.
The 30-year-old has been one of the most potent hitmen in England since signing for City in 2011. He has netted 277 goals in 329 appearances – an average of 34 per season – and has shown few signs of slowing down.
And Allardyce insists this should be the year he is finally rewarded for his exemplary performances.
â€Å“It’s a tough one, there are definitely some good candidates this year, but I’d go for Aguero,†the former England manager told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.
â€Å“Aguero has never won it and he deserves it for what he’s done over the years.
â€Å“I think everyone would probably favour Raheem Sterling at the moment with the way he’s going and the publicity he’s getting.

â€Å“But I think it’s taken for granted for Aguero is doing, and what he always does for Manchester City.
â€Å“So I’d like to see Aguero win it. Raheem Sterling is still young enough to win Young Player of the Year!â€
