Fulham 0-2 Manchester City: Pep Guardiola praises Citizens’ ‘incredible’ start to easy Premier League victory

Pep Guardiola heaped huge praise on his players’ ‘incredible’ start as Manchester City regained their place at the top of the Premier League.

The Citizens beat Fulham 2-0 in convincing fashion at Craven Cottage thanks to early goals from Bernardo Silva and Sergio Aguero.

It means City are ahead of challengers for the title Liverpool by one point, although the Reds can go back to the summit with a win over Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.

However, City will still have a game in hand on Jurgen Klopp’s men, with that match coming against Cardiff at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night – a contest the reigning champions are expected to win comfortably.

The victory was a routine one for City but Guardiola insisted that it could have been a banana skin off the back of an international break.

Speaking after the game, Guardiola said:  “When you’ve just had an international break and you have the first game at 12:30pm on a sunny day and Fulham with the position they’re in we could have had the wrong approach.

“But the way we started in the first 15-20 minutes was incredible – not just for the goals we scored but we created chances and we were outstanding.

“After that the game was more calm, we created chances to score the second.

“I know how difficult it was for Liverpool to win here for Chelsea to win here so we know it. The Premier League is so tough.”
