Why Liverpool will get more Premier League money than Manchester City REGARDLESS of who wins the title

Liverpool will earn more Premier League income than Manchester City… even if the Reds fail to win the title.

The two clubs are locked in a relentless race to be crowned champions, with one point separating them on the final day of the season.

The title will be decided on Sunday

City will retain their crown with victory at Brighton, while Liverpool must get a result against Wolves and hope for the best.

But even if the Reds finish second, they will still get more Premier League money than their rivals.

That’s according to sportingintelligence.com, which forecasts that Liverpool will receive £149.5million compared to City’s £148.1million.

A significant portion of that comes from TV game fees – and Jurgen Klopp’s men have featured on the box more than any other team in the league.

They have had 29 games on TV compared to City’s 26, generating £3.4million more than the league leaders.

  • Mansfield vs Newport (Sunday, 6pm) – talkSPORT 2

That extra broadcasting income outweighs the difference between finishing first and second in the table; if the league stays the same, City will only receive £2.1million more than Liverpool in prize money.

The final revenue is made up as part of the equal share given out to all 20 Premier League teams. For the 2018/19 season, this share is valued at £79.4million per team.

Arsenal were handed a hammer blow to their summer transfer window plans on Wednesday when they suffered a 4-1 Europa League final defeat against Chelsea in Baku.. It means no Champions League football next season for Arsenal and a potential transfer budget of as little as £40m, something which is naturally subject to the amount of money they raise from any sales.

Frustration is growing within the Tottenham faithful at the lack of activity in the transfer market. Manager Mauricio Pochettino admitted at the end of last season that he wanted to get deals done early, but with less than two weeks to go before the summer transfer window shuts, Spurs are one of just two Premier League teams still yet to make a summer signing.
