Antonio Rudiger: Chelsea defender to miss rest of season after undergoing successful surgery on knee injury

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger will not feature again this season after undergoing successful knee surgery.

The Germany international limped out Chelsea’s 1-1 draw against Manchester United last Sunday, raising fears he will miss the remainder of the campaign.

Rudiger also hobbled off during the Blues’ 2-0 defeat at Liverpool earlier this month and questions have been raised as to whether he returned prematurely.

It was later confirmed he suffered a knee injury against the Red Devils, and Rudiger shared a picture on social media to update fans on his situation.

“What a pity I won’t be able to help my team during the last games of the season,” he wrote on Instagram. “But my knee surgery went well and I’m already positive again.”

The competition could offer a lifeline to the Blues if they falter in their final two league games, as the winners automatically qualify for next season’s Champions League.
