David Beckham hit with six-month driving ban after using his phone at the wheel

David Beckham has been disqualified from driving for six months after using a mobile phone at the wheel of his Bentley.

The former England captain was handed six points on his license following the incident in London’s West End.

Beckham has been banned from driving for six months

Beckham, 43, was reported for the offence by a member of the public after he was spotted using the device while driving in Great Portland Street on November 21.

He had already pleaded guilty by post and received his punishment at Bromley Magistrates Court on Thursday afternoon.

His case was initially considered last month, through an administrative process known as a single justice procedure, which is not open to the press or public.

Beckham, who appeared in court wearing a dark grey suit and tie, was told by District Judge Catherine Moore that he would be disqualified as she gave him six additional points to the six he already had for previous speeding matters.

The star stood in court to say his full name, date of birth and his west London address.

Prosecutor Matthew Spratt said Beckham was photographed by a member of public as he drove in “slowly moving” traffic while holding a phone.

He said: “Instead of looking straight forward, paying attention to the road, he appeared to be looking at his lap.”

He added: “He (the witness) says that the defendant was operating a handheld device at knee level. At that moment a photograph was taken.

“The defendant was holding the mobile phone in the upright position.”

Ruben Loftus-Cheek suffered an injury blow in Chelsea’s post-season friendly in America and is now unlikely to play in the Europa League final.

The midfielder picked up an ankle injury during the Blues’ 3-0 win over New England Revolution at Gillette Stadium.

He has also been directly involved in nine goals in his past 15 competitive matches for the club.

His absence will be a big blow for Sarri in his preparations for the final, which is less than a fortnight away.

The manager is likely to be able to cope without starting Loftus-Cheek as he has only made six starts in the Premier League this season.

The England international has been a key impact player from the bench, though, and has netted six times in the league.

Another player Chelsea will be awaiting news on their fitness is midfielder N’Golo Kante.

The France international limped out of their final home game against Watford with a hamstring injury and missed the last two games.

Kante is expected to be fit for the final against Arsenal and he remained in London to receive treatment while his team-mates went to America for the friendly.

Here is how Chelsea could line-up without Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the Europa League.

There are unlikely to be any surprises for Maurizio Sarri’s side when they face Arsenal due to injury problems at certain positions and poor form elsewhere.

If Kante is fit then his is likely to play alongside Jorginho and Kovacic in midfield. Ruben Loftus-Cheek may have been pushing to replace one of those in the line-up had he not gone down with the injury but it will have made the decision for Sarri.

Ross Barkley scored twice in the charity friendly but he will likely be used from the bench.

It may also be the last we see of Eden Hazard in a Chelsea shirt with his move to Real Madrid is thought to be close.

Olivier Giroud is favourite at this stage to start up front against his former club with loanee Gonzalo Higuain struggling for goals since joining in January.

Arsenal news: Gunners consider offering Danny Welbeck new contract to fend off West Ham, Everton and Newcastle interest

Arsenal are considering offering Danny Welbeck a new contract to stay at the Emirates, according to reports.

The striker has been recovering well from a serious ankle injury that has kept him out for most of the season and according to the Mirror, a new deal is being discussed by the Gunners hierarchy.

Danny Welbeck could be offered a new deal by Arsenal

Danny Welbeck could be offered a new deal by Arsenal

Welbeck, 28, is out of contract in the summer and would be an attractive asset in the summer on a free transfer.

Everton, West Ham and Newcastle are reportedly monitoring the progress of the striker to see if a new deal will be offered.

There is no indication that Welbeck would be willing to sign a new agreement to keep him north London bound as he may want a move away to be guaranteed more first team opportunities.

Welbeck is currently the third choice No 9 at the club, with both Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette proffered in the role.

The other option is that the Gunners offer him a deal on the basis of how much he plays due to his persistent injury problems – but he may be reluctant to agree to those terms.

It was widely reported Welbeck would be on his way out of Arsenal following his ankle injury that has kept him out since November last year.

Unai Emery likes Welbeck for his versatility and could keep him on at the club

However, the Gunners have already allowed Aaron Ramsey to join Juventus for free and losing another player who has vast Premier League experience may be a costly mistake.

Furthermore, Unai Emery is a fan of Welbeck’s versatility – with the former Man United star a very popular figure among the dressing room.

West Ham transfer news: Hammers emerge as surprise contenders to sign Arsenal and Tottenham target Ivan Perisic

West Ham have become the latest Premier League club to register their interest in Croatia star Ivan Perisic, reports claim.

The Inter Milan winger is reportedly wanted by Arsenal and Tottenham, while Manchester United have been linked with him for several years.

Perisic has been linked with a move to the Premier League

Perisic has been linked with a move to the Premier League

The Gunners tried and failed to sign the 30-year-old in January – Perisic handed in a transfer request after Inter rejected Arsenal’s loan proposal.

Inter are keen to shift the 30-year-old, but they are more interested in a permanent switch than a loan deal.

Arsenal were reluctant to meet the Serie A club’s asking price, and according to Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the Hammers are willing to spend £35million in an attempt to outbid their London rivals.

After starring at the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Perisic has impressed for the Nerazzurri this season, scoring seven goals and providing eight assists in all competitions.

Maurizio Sarri has guided Chelsea to a third place finish as well as Europa League and League Cup finals

According to SNAI journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Sarri has agreed to a contract worth €7million per year following Massimiliano Allegri’s departure from the club.

The next step is for the 60-year-old to agree an exit from Chelsea, which will undoubtedly not go down well with the Blues’ hierarchy, who have stuck with him during a rocky first season.

If this cannot be done, it’s reported that he may have to resign from his post.

Chelsea would then be left in a rare position in which a manager has left them on their own terms, rather than being fired.

David Silva could leave Manchester City in the summer after being offered a two-year contract offer worth £12 million from a club in Qatar.

The Spaniard is still an integral member of the City side and helped them win a historic domestic treble this season, including scoring the opener in the 6-0 FA Cup win over Watford last week.

However, The Sun report that Pep Guardiola is already planning for life after the diminutive playmaker and is eyeing a move for Monaco’s Youri Tielemans, who is valued at £40m.

The Belgium international, who is also wanted by Arsenal, Manchester United and Tottenham, has made a considerable impression during his loan spell at Leicester City.

It is said that Silva would receive £12m tax free if he were to make the move.

Silva, 33, joined City from Valencia in 2010 and he has won four Premier League titles, two FA Cups and four League Cups during his time at the Etihad.

The City legend is currently the club’s longest-serving player following the news that captain Vincent Kompany will be departing and returning to Belgium, with Anderlecht, as player/manager.

The defender, 33, will end 11 years of service this summer and  head to the club where his professional career began, at the age of six, in Brussels.
