Mohamed Salah appeared to be out cold during Liverpool’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Newcastle on Saturday night.
Divock Origi nodded in the winner for Jurgen Klopp’s side with just four minutes of the game remaining to keep their hopes of a first Premier League title in 29 years alive.
But the victory was somewhat tainted by injury to Salah midway through the second half.
The Egyptian forward, who had netted his 22nd league goal of the season earlier in the match, was left clutching his head after colliding with Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
He appeared to be in tears as he was stretchered off to be replaced by Origi, who went on to snatch a dramatic winner for Liverpool.
However, Klopp is hopeful his star striker will be fit to face Barcelona in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final clash.
“Mo got the hip of the goalie in his head and then was on the ground,” said the Reds boss.
“The doctor had to make a decision – on the pitch or off the pitch – and the decision was off the pitch and we accept that of course.
“When we came in, he was sitting in the dressing room and had watched the game. He was then fine but of course we have to wait. He got a proper knock in that situation. We’ll have to see.”
While Klopp appears optimistic about Salah’s fitness, he is consigned to being without Roberto Firmino for the return leg against Barcelona, as they attempt to overturn a 3-0 deficit at Anfield.
The Brazil international wasn’t included in the squad to face Newcastle due to a groin injury.
“Bobby didn’t start at Barcelona, he had problems, he has still problems, he’s not even in the squad, he’s just not available. That’s just how it is,” said Klopp.
‘So we have to accept it, and that’s why It’s easy to leave him out because the medical department said no chance.
“He will not be ready for Tuesday and the rest [of the season] we will see.”
