Nicolas Otamendi could be on his way out of Manchester City this summer.
The Argentine defender is reportedly desperate to prolong his international career and believes regular football at club level is the only way to achieve it.
However, the centre-back has slipped to fourth choice in defence for City this season, behind Aymeric Laporte, John Stones and club captain Vincent Kompany.
He has not started a Premier League game since March 30, while City appear eager to recruit another player in his position this summer, with highly-rated teenager Matthijs de Ligt reportedly on Pep Guardiola’s shopping list.
Otamendi signed a new contract in January but the purchase of a star like De Ligt would almost certainly spell the end of Otamendi’s career with the Citizens.

Reports in Marca suggest that the 31-year-old is not short of suitors either, with interest being shown by Wolves, West Ham, his old club Valencia, the Chinese Super League and River Plate in Argentina. However, Otamendi’s huge wages make a return to South America unlikely.
A move to Wolves is given greater probability by the fact that Otamendi’s agent Jorge Mendes represents Wolves’ coach Nuno Espirito Santo and players Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho.
Last season, Otamendi was a key player as Manchester City set an English football record earning 100 points on their way to the Premier League title.
