Ilkay Gundogan will be allowed to run down his contract at Manchester City and leave the club next summer for free as discussions over a new deal remain deadlocked.
The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder is out of contract next year and could leave for nothing in 2020, but the club are hopeful of reaching an agreement despite talks over an extension stalling.
However, even if the two parties fail to reach an agreement, the treble winners will not sell Gundogan in the summer transfer window.
Back in March, Man City boss Pep Guardiola, said he wanted the German to remain at the Etihad.
“I said in the press conference we would like to but it depends on the club and him so I don’t know,”he said of Gundogan’s situation.
“Hopefully he can stay. I would prefer him to stay but at the same time I want to feel he wants to stay, too.

“If he doesn’t want to stay he has to leave. But we would like to continue. Next season he has a contact and a longer time together.”
Gundogan was Guardiola’s first signing, when he brought him from Dortmund for £20million in June 2016.
A knee injury kept him out for nine months of his first season in England and he made just 10 appearances in the league.
The 28-year-old played in more of a deeper role this season, in Fernandinho’s absence and helped City edge out Liverpool as he claimed his second league title with the club.
