Manchester United are on the hunt for a new sporting director in the summer to assist Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in trying to get the Red Devils back amongst Europe’s elite.
Ed Woodward, executive vice-chairman of the Premier League giants, is set to introduce a new role which will take over responsibility for the club̢۪s transfer dealings, as part of a restructure at United this summer.
Rio Ferdinand, a six-time title winner at Old Trafford and former teammate of manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, has emerged as the frontrunner for the position.
